Welcome to Maison Adorée, bringing you treasured finds from my petit maison in France... Please scroll down the page for LOTS of detailed pictures as these form part of the item description. Pictures have been taken without any artificial enhancements and in daylight. Please note that shades of colour displayed on this page/site may vary according to your screen settings.
There are some pictures below of the rug sat against the Farrow and Ball paint chart, this is for guidance and do get in touch if colour match is crucial. Super über RARE rug by Laura Ashley in their ELMBROOK design - woven in Italy - loooong discontinued - so indeed a most marvellous find!I have given this a very quick steam clean and have had it sitting outside in the French countryside. I hasten to add however, this is VINTAGE Laura Ashley, circa late 1990's early 2000's, so therefore is is not remotely new or nearly new and whilst I have given it a quick steam clean and have had it sat in the open French Countryside, you should make provisions to have this professionally cleaned/shampooed in the near future. Please also note that the original care label has been removed, I have included some additional pictures of the rug as advertised on the LA Autumn winter 2004 catalogue. This is a THIN PILE rug and thus can be folded for posting, the wrinkles/crease folds from this should diminish once the rug is left to lay on a flat surface for a short while.
CONDITION: Offered in good vintage pre-owned condition, as mentioned I have steamed this quickly but please note the following observations. Some surface markings to commensurate with its previous home - nothing ground in. I will note that the threading used for the rug holds a pearlescent shimmer - it was rather hair pulling and a definite fight with the camera! - and some parts of the pile when touched/brushed over slightly reveals a silvery shimmer. So any if not most of the markings do conceal and does get over looked somewhat I may be just a wee bit biased as I do truly adore this rug!
Some wear of the blue threading along the edges - more on one side than the other. One corner holds a cut/nick - best left as is for I have examined carefully and it looks unlikely to get any bigger. The reverse of the rug remains in immaculate condition, and absolutely no wearing of the the binding strip at all. NO excessive thinning of the rug and are kindly reminded that this is a rug and thus has been homed on a floor and walked on etc, and the rug in the pictures is the one you will get. PATTERN, DESIGN & COLOURS: Sigh they do not make them like this any more - I find current offerings through them a tad bit boring, this rug was I personally think, produced in their heyday!
Dripping with classical French Baroque damask inspired pattern - exquisite and oh soOo ostentatious scrolling and other fanciful swirls in a delicious delphinium blue that holds a wonderful pearlescent shimmer, there is a remarkable silver hue making the blue appear almost metallic even, and as the pattern is woven in a velvet/chenille thread adding a wonderful shimmer and glimmer so the blues appear deeper or lighter in tone depending on how the light hits it. The backing is a pale slate grey. The weave is another heart-stopper, I think there is an element of angora for there are'tufts of wool all over the rug, wonderful silver white strands. The patterns have been expertly woven and there is an element of chenille in choice areas to enhance what is already a jaw droppingly gorgeous rug!
Just sublime and would look so perfect in almost any room setting, the design and colours do mean that this can fuse well with modern or traditional settings. 236 cm x 171 cm or 93 inches x 67.3 inches respectively.
